Days 108, 109, and 110.

I am pretty sure I am going to stop attempting to write a post each weekend day, because life just gets too crazy.  This catch up format is becoming the standard, and it may just be here to stay.

This weekend's (which includes Friday this time) bubbles:

  • We had a great time hanging out with friends.
  • Football.  The most enjoyed part of the superbowl by my kids was the trailers for movies.  Transformers to be specific.
  • Basketball.  Ty's team went up against the only undefeated team in their league and WON.  It was a nail-biter, and I won't admit to you that I was screaming while Keira was sleeping in my lap.  Thankfully I was surrounded by parents from football, and they know me and don't judge me.  The game was crazy.  People from the other two gyms were coming in to see the game and you could have closed your eyes and thought you were at a heated rivalry college basketball game by the screams and shouts.  It was that intense.
  • Thank goodness I am a girl who likes sports.
  • I had some really good workouts this weekend, and man oh man am I sore today.  And I love that feeling.
  • My kids are funny.
  • The snow has gone from 18 feet to 10 feet, thank you sun for melting some away.

That is really all I have to share.  The bubbles.  It was an overall good weekend.  It has made me look forward to spring like nobody's business!!!!

Day 83~Sneak Peek

Today I had an amazing session with the very talented Jessica to get my headshots done.  She sent me this preview shot.  I am anxiously looking forward to seeing the rest of them, and will gladly share them with you.

After my headshot session, I rushed off to Ty's basketball game where as Ty said they "smoked" the other team, winning 49-25.  Ty scored eight baskets, and had a great overall game.

Today, day 83, was a good one.

Day 82

Day 82.

Today I ran for Sharon.

Let me rephrase that.

Today I ran in honor of Sharon.  I ran so hopefully someday a wife isn't taken from her husband too soon, a mother isn't taken from her children, a grandmother from her grandchildren, a sister, daughter, friend isn't gone too early in their life.  I ran so that someday we can live in a world where we don't have to see our loved ones suffer through this terrible disease, cancer.  I ran so that hopefully Keira will not have to worry about living to see her children and grandchildren grow and live their lives.  I ran because it is the one thing I can do, raise money to help the scientists and doctors and trials to combat this disease.  I ran so that someday no family will have to go through what Nathan's family has.  I ran because I care so deeply about this, and because the hole Sharon has left is vast and deep.

82 days since I made this vow not to take for granted this life, this daily gift we are given.

82 days since I vowed to soak up the world around me.

I could not think of anything better to do than to spend this 82nd day running for Sharon.
I was lucky enough to have my best friend run with me today.
I am not exactly why running photos distort legs so much.
This was probably me saying I had no idea where Kerrie was.
Oh there she is!  Great job Kerrie!!
Ty was there cheering me on.  Okay he was actually there saying mom, be faster.  *I finished under 30 minutes, I'd say that is decent*
My mom was also there to cheer me on.  Thanks mom, I love you!!!!

Day 76 ~19 and Pregnant

Over vacation week we spent one day reconnecting with two girls I hold near and dear to my heart.  They were pivotal people in my life after having Ty.
I was just 19 years old when I got pregnant with Ty, and turned 20 six days before I had him.  I may not have been "16 and Pregnant", but I think the reason I am compelled to watch that show, is it brings up so many of the same emotions I went through while pregnant and when I first had Ty.
When I found out I was pregnant, I was pretty far along.  I was exactly half way through to be exact.  I found out I was pregnant on January 2nd, and for three days read up on things, and talked things through with my mom, and Ty's dad, and actually had decided that because his father and I were no longer together (his dad was in California at the time) that I would have an abortion.  My mom encouraged me to get an ultrasound before having the abortion to find out how far along I was, and I agreed, and picked a gestational age that I would be okay following through with the abortion.  My mom and aunt accompanied me to the ultrasound office, and they turned the sounds off and faced the monitor away so we couldn't see anything.
I should tell you that I was very skinny.  I think it would seem somewhat more realistic for me to not know I was pregnant if say, I was heavier, and had a belly, but I was wearing a size 2, jeans zipped up completely fine the day of my ultrasound.  I do not remember anything other than the technician saying "You're 20 weeks!" and me asking what it was (because that was so far past my acceptable time frame) and her asking if I really wanted to know.I said yes, she said it's a boy, turned the monitor around so we could see him, and there was Ty, sucking his thumb, moving around, and right there in that moment, my life changed forever.  I could see the path in in front of me split, from where I was, and where I now would go.
Within a day or two my stomach started to pop out, and it seemed like I went from normal 19 year old to teen mom over night.
A few months prior to having Ty I got in touch with an agency called Healthy Families.  It was this fantastic program for very young moms.  I had a worker come to my house once a week (Freddie) and her and I would talk, she would help me with things like insurance and child support.  And once Ty was born, she did regular developmental checks to make sure he was doing great, and was on track.  Freddie became my biggest advocate, and was someone I relied on heavily.
I will be completely honest here, there was a time after I had Ty, when I was diagnosed with postpartum depression, where I even considered adoption because I felt like I would never be able to provide for Ty the way I should.  I wanted to still be young.  I wanted to still be selfish about my choices.  Through it all Freddie supported me, and talked to me about options and never judged me.
One of the hardest aspects of being a very young mom, is that your friends, as hard as they may try, will just never understand what you are going through.  I can not tell you how alone I felt, and how much is hurt to hear my friends tell me about their nights out, or how mad and frustrated I would be when they would call me ten minutes before leaving for the movies to see if I wanted to come.  Gone were my days of impromptu movies and late nights.  And after a while, they stopped asking altogether, which brought on a whole new batch of emotions, feelings of being left out in all of their forms were so overwhelming.  I think these things contributed to postpartum depression, and feeling like I just couldn't do it.
I must say, I am lucky, I did have family support, and even though my friends didn't understand what I was going through, they never intentionally hurt my feelings, and I am still friends with them now, though we are much closer now than we were then.  They just did not have the responsibility that I did at the time, and thinking of it now, I may have been the one to pull back from them because quite honestly it just hurt so much to see everything my life was not, and never would be again, through them.  It was no longer easy, it was no longer about me, it was no longer full of any possibility, it was no longer free.  I held a lot of resentment toward Ty's father, and our relationship was strained because of this.
All of these things I talked in depth to Freddie about.  She understood, and she suggested I go to "group".  There was a picnic coming up, and it was informal, and she said there would be lots of girls just like me.
I was so hesitant because in my head I pictured bad news girls, who were nothing like me.  I was convinced I was nothing like these other girls.  If you had to guess one of the girls to get pregnant young, I would not have been one of them.  I was in honors classes, I was heavily involved in church, I was a perfectionist, I had a bright and promising future ahead of me.  I never thought that it would be me.
Oh boy was I wrong about the other girls in group.  I was exactly like a lot of the girls.  We were smart, normal, good girls, that had babies really young.  I immediately felt a surge of normalcy, a feeling of belonging and that I was not alone.  I can not stress how much this meant to me, and how vital that feeling is.  To not be alone, and to have other people to talk to, who know exactly what you are going through is so important, especially as a teen mom or young mom.
I started going to group every week.  The babies would be in one room and the moms had a full hour to talk about what they were going through, and we could just vent, or cry, or laugh, and ultimately bond together and feel normal.
I connected with so many of these girls, but two of them became more than friends.  Those two girls became members in the story of my life, my angels through one of the hardest parts of my journey.  We went everywhere together with our babies.  There were late nights spent at each others houses, sitting, talking, nursing babies, while my other friends were out at a party, or at college, or on a date, or traveling.  These girls made me feel like it was okay to be a mom and still want to be young.  The helped me find normalcy in a new, overwhelming world, and they made me love this new direction my life took, even though it was hard.  Because of these things, these girls will always be a part of my life.    Without them, I am not sure how I would have fared.  I would have felt alone, and outcast, insecure and lonely.
Today, although we started out with three babies between the three of us, we now have 10 between us.
When we were together we talked a lot about the differences in raising out first babies, as such young moms, and how we were with our other children.  I think one of the similarities we all discussed was never going through that "new mom" stage, the one where you are a complete germ freak and think everything and everyone will break your new baby.  That is not to say we were careless with our first borns by any means.  I think our parenting styles were more go with the flow.  We grew up along side our babies, because we were still so close to babies ourselves.
It has been ten years since we first met, since those girls changed my life, and when we were together the kids were saying "see you in ten more years!"
It was shocking to think that at that point they would be the exact age we were when we met.  They would be twenty.  They would be starting out their lives.
Thank you Shestin and Catie.  I hope you both know how much you helped me during that time.  I hope the next ten years does not go by as quickly, and that they are filled with so many more reunions.

When Life Gets Tough, Just Dance

As I stated in my last post, it has been an emotional few days for me, so when I got a call from one of my oldest, dearest friends, Kristina, last night, asking me if Keira and I wanted to come to her house for a "girl's night dance party" we jumped at the chance.
I was mid way through cutting up the homemade pizza (pizza that Brody and Keira sprinkled all the cheese on themselves!), and I had already folded five loads of laundry and gone through a nail biter of a basketball game, (Ty's team won by one point, and Ty fouled out of the game with one minute left!) and basketball pictures (just what I want to spend money on the week before Christmas), and a week and a half's worth of grocery shopping, and putting away of said groceries (which also means batting away children who can't control themselves and are suddenly transformed into ravenous wolves when new boxes of snacks arrive), and cleaned the house, and put about twenty ornaments back on the tree that those sneaky kiddos love to take down, and made breakfast and lunch and, and and and and... you get the idea.  I had not stopped a once!  SO when that call from the Kristina who makes me sign up for races and then doesn't run with me, (who from now on shall be called Kristina who saves me from a busy day with a dance party) came I let Keira finish eating her pizza and then handed over the reigns to Nathan for some boy time and Keira and I dashed like mad out the door for some much needed girl time, fun and laughs.

And then we danced.

And danced.

And danced.

And I didn't feel bad that I was too busy to go for a run yesterday, because I was working up a sweat and having more fun that I have had in a while.

Keira was having fun too.  She watched everything Kristina's daughter Savannah did, and tried to copy it exactly.

I love moments like last night.  I love the unplanned fun that jumped into our laps, the girl time that I got to share with Keira, the laughs that came from the ridiculous dance moves, the pajama pants and tee shirts, the wine the adults got to have, and the fun Sav and Keira got to have with us.

It was needed.
It was perfect.

Day 15 ~ Halloween!

Day 15, Halloween, sure to make you want to SCREAM!

It was an insanely early day for us on Halloween. We were up a little after 5am, and out the door by 5:50am. Ty's game was far away, but oh was it worth it.
On the opening kickoff of the game Ty caught the ball, was hit while in the air but landed on his feet, and then that boy ran. Ty ran just about 60 yards, dodging the opposing team, and then he had his break away and kids were running behind him, trying to grab him. I was screaming "Go, Ty! RUN RUN RUN!!!" He never looked back, not even once. Most of the kids would dive and fall trying to get him, but there was one that was just out of arm's reach... until he dove and fell. It was all Ty after that. He scored a touch down. His team was screaming and jumping up and down, the kids all ran around him patting his helmet, congratulating him.
I cried.
Thankfully, I was only standing next to one other mom, and I told her, I was going to cry. I had sunglasses on, so no one else could see.
I'm not sure why I cried. I think I was just so filled with happiness and pride for him. It was his first touchdown ever. His first six points. It was a big day.
The kids went on to win 32-6. This was their last game of the season, and only their second win. Needless to say it has been a long season, but to end on such a high note made it so much sweeter.

When we got home, I gathered all the Halloween stuff up in a bag to bring to my mom's house. We had Sunday Spaghetti with my mom and grandmother, we played with Halloween stuff, dressed up in funny wigs and masks and teeth. We had fun!

The kids finally could not wait a second longer, so we got them dressed and made up (well my mom did all of their make up) and ready to go.

So here are the 2010 Halloween costumes:
Ty as Jason

Nate as a vampire
Brody as a cowboy
Keira as Raggedy Ann
No themes this year, but man are they cute/scary!

My kiddos

I had to add in these cute ones of Keira with her "kitty cat candy bag". She carried this bag all night, and we were out for almost two hours! She refused to let me help her hold it, even though it was so heavy.

My little cowboy! I love getting kisses from my Brody.

My vampire Nate, who I think enjoyed Halloween to the extreme this year!
Fighting off Jason. Don't worry world, I'll keep you safe.

I hope everyone enjoyed Halloween with their families, friends, or just enjoying the Pats game, or handing out candy.

Days 13 and 14

You guessed it. We've been running around like chickens with our heads cut off. BUT aside from the hovering sadness we feel due to the family situation, things have been really good.

I think it is because of that sadness that we feel compelled to enjoy each moment. That is why I started these daily posts, and will continue to do for the next year. It is really forcing me to look at things in a new perspective. Instead of getting easily frustrated, or mentally and emotionally bogged down by things, I have chosen to just live in the moment, and push through things with a smile on my face. Let me tell you, life has been much calmer. I'm not saying that life is suddenly perfect, because it is far from it. I have just tried a new approach to dealing with things, which has resulted in a calmer, happier me, which in turn means a calmer, happier family.
Whatever it is, it's working.

We visited with Nathan's brother and sister, and his sister's boys on Friday, and Ty attended his school's Halloween party. Saturday morning Nate scored three goals at his soccer game. He is such a great soccer player! I was able to go see my godson Connor play in his soccer game Saturday afternoon also.

Then..

oh and THEN,

I had a massage!

You read that correctly! It was glorious! It was relaxing! It was everything I needed and more.

Afterward the kids and I made Halloween cupcakes at my mom's house, and we managed to get home by 8:30 that night.

I know I am a day behind, but I promise to make Day 15, the Halloween post SPOOKTACULAR!

Day 9

Where did you go Day niner niner?

I know. You were taken up by doctors appointments and hair cuts and basketball tryouts and a shining brief moment of playing outside.

That is where you disappeared to.

So the stats:

Keira's 18 month (holy crap, at her next doctor appointment it will be her TWO YEAR one. Weird.) Keira finally did it! She made it to a whopping 20 pounds. Even. She is resting comfortably at the 5th percentile for her weight. She is 30.5 inches long, which is somewhere between the 7th and 10th percentiles. In short, still a peanut, but keeping steady, so no cause for worry. She had two shots and was a trooper. A few tears, but happy smiles as soon as she was given her Dora sticker. She is still wearing it. Now on her pjs.

Nate's 6 year: 42lbs (25th percentile) and 46" (50th percentile). He is healthy as an ox. He had his flu shot and did great.

Brody: he has been sick ever since his surgery. He is being treated with antibiotics and hopefully can kick this awful cough/cold. He weighed in at almost 33lbs (in case you were wondering.)

Ty: had his basketball tryouts and did very well. He had some great steals, and hopefully will end up on a good team this year.

On that note, I can not believe football is wrapping up this week. It is doing so, naturally, with a bang. The kids have three practices this week, and a god awful early game on Sunday, that is about 45 minutes away. We will be leaving the house at 6:15ish that morning. Halloween morning. It will be a long day, propelled by sugar rushes. Yet I look forward to it more than I can say.

Day 6

In like a lion out like a lamb.

Today was filled with crazy kids.

I had to get myself in check. I think at least one child was screaming at all times for the majority of the day.

The most screaming/crying/ear shattering wails came from Brody who was mad at me for washing Ty's dirty, smelly football practice clothes. What can I say, the boy loves football. And he loves wearing the gear.

I decided what we needed was a turn around. We walked to the grocery store to pick up some pizza essentials.
We made yummy pizzas (pepperoni and cheese for the kids and sun dried tomato and artichokes for me.. and Keira who thinks tomatoes are the greatest food in the world.)
We watched A Goofy Movie.
And we regrouped and refreshed ourselves.
Now we are happy and Mr Potato Head is trying out some new looks.

Day 1 and Day 2

I spent Sunday determined to come out triumphant. It was challenging. I know you're thinking, day one and it was tough? Well it was. My heart was aching and filled with emotion for people I love. Also it was Sunday. What's the big deal about Sunday? Well for starters, it means football, and for the past five weeks that has meant a loss for Ty's team, and one upset and moody Ty. It also means it is grocery shopping/meal planning/house cleaning/laundry wrap up day. I can't say I'm a huge fan. With all the running around and chores done, the kids usually end up complaining about everything. Seriously. You'd think I run a sweatshop or something. The most frequent complaints and whines being
"I'm so tired! I can't lift even my pinky!"
"Oh my gosh I have done things all daaaaaaaaay!"
"I haven't even been able to rest!"

Yup. I have no idea where my kids got their dramatic nature. None.

You shut your mouth, or we won't be friends.

So Sunday came, with my warring emotions and yet that will to soak it up propelled me. Instead of just cleaning, I got the kids to get excited (yes you read that correctly) to rearrange their room. I asked for their input, they sat on the floor calling me super woman while I moved bunk beds across the room. It is okay that my back still hurts, because they haven't come out of their room since Sunday. No exaggerating there. Have I told you I don't allow toys in their bedrooms? I tried that, when Ty was little, and Nate was little, and let's just say I've lived and learned. No toys, no t.v., bedrooms are for sleeping in this house. And for their clothes. I have done this for three years and I have not regretted this decision once.
I digress.
That took up a huge chunk of my morning, along with vacuuming, washing walls, doing laundry, and again, with the kids help, planning meals for the week. Oh and the help of some facebook friends. Yes, those that helped out there are owed a big thank you. Not only did you give me ideas, you made me fully aware that I have never made Shepard's Pie (a couple of you suggested it) for my family, and I need to use my crock pot more, because I've only whipped it out once so far this season.
Anyway, so I loaded all four kids, because I had to take them all, not because I do it for the fun of it, and made the most of our trip. I made it a game, having Ty and Nate take turns finding items, letting Brody hold the list, letting Keira hold a box of Dora fruit snacks that she kissed repeatedly. It always makes me laugh to hear just how many people say "God Bless You" to me when I take all the kids with me. Or tell me how brave I am. This day, the kids were hyper. If I had a dollar for every time someone said that, well I would have a lot of money. I'll take the blessings though.
Once the whole routine of getting home, putting stuff away, bat the kids away from all of the snacks in the house was over, it was time for football. Again, I had all the kids with me. I really like to pay attention to Ty's games. Having all the kids just is difficult. But I was determined to make the best of it. Even when we got lost in a particularly interesting part of the city the game was in, and we were running late because we were lost, I found a reason to laugh. Nate, who acquired a compass, was being ever so helpful, directing me where to go. Turns out my directions were wrong, and I went about five miles past the stadium. Once there, Brody and Keira had fallen asleep so Nate and I listened to music in the car. We got out at what we thought was game time, (yes I woke up the babies and took them too) and hiked up to the stands. Turns out the earlier game was late and it was just half time. The kids and I played, I chatted with friends, I made three, yes three, sprints hauling Keira under my arm, my purse, heavy with juice boxes and snacks to bribe the kids with come game time, holding Brody's hand, and begging Nate to wait up ALL the way down the stands, across the stadium and to the bathroom (don't judge me, it was like half a mile away! I know! there was a track!) Because naturally all three of them had to poop. But my silver lining was that I was sweating so much that I know I got in a goof workout. And no one pooped in their pants.
Oh and the best part of my day? Ty's team won!!! Not just won, but dominated with a final score of 28-0. Ty sacked the q.b. and recovered a fumble.
I came home and had the kids help me make calzones for dinner. We snuggled up on the couch after dinner and watched How to Train Your Dragon, which was cute and out of the norm for a Sunday night. It was a good day.
Monday came with getting the older boys to look good for their school picture day. They did. So handsome! I went for a refreshing and much needed run, and Brody and Keira made me smile in their hats and mittens, those silly kittens. (I couldn't stop myself from writing that.)
We came home and made two lasagnas, one for dinner, one to give. Whenever I am that far ahead of the game, making dinner early, I feel accomplished. We stopped by Nathan's work to bring him leftover calzones for lunch, we saw G-Ma for a little while and laughed at Keira's new surprise face, because it is really funny. We had an impromptu dance party at my mom's house, we dropped off the lasagna, we played outside, we did homework. It was a good day.
Right now with all the emotion that is encompassing our world, good days may not be something grand, or spectacular, but we got through the day. I am grateful for what we have, and the love that surrounds us. I am grateful on harder days, that I survive with my sanity somewhat in tact.
And for those that have checked in this weekend, I am really grateful for your support. It means the world.

Football

Today. All week. Times people shouldn't be up yet on a weekend.
Football is consuming our lives. My car permanently smells of sweaty football pads. I wash football clothes more than I'd like to count in a week.

Football football football.

FOOOOOOOOTBALLLLLLLLLLL.

That being said, here's some other things I have learned this morning.

1. I felt the need to straighten my hair before football.

2. I really want to chop my hair off.

3. I will not chop my hair off because I know I would regret it two hours after I did it.

4. Keira is significantly easier at games than either Nate or Brody ever was.

5. I really, really like the other parents on the team.

6. I am pretty excited that after 2 1/2 years with them, I can remember 47% of their names, 75% of the time.

7. I yell at games

8. I do not yell in a mean way, I yell in a "Go Wakefield", "Lets go boys", " Get back on D", "Get that ball", "Watch the pass", "Throw that kid to the ground", "Hit him harder" kind of way.

9. I am joking about the last two.

10. kind of.

11. I am loud.

12. I am one of 3 moms that yell this loud.

13. That doesn't bother me or (thankfully) Ty.

14. For all of the complaining I do about the time suck that is football, the excitement of the games is well worth it.

15. Football is pretty great.

A Jumbled Brain

Okay, I know I have spent many-a post promising photos and more in depth updates. Its just that we've been so busy y'all!!! (I know I've been saying that a lot too, but darn it, it's true!)
Here are a few little things I'd like to get out of my head... think of it as a end of summer cleaning. As you all know by now there's a whole little universe in my head, and the man that was just elected leader (after the masses overthrew that last guy for letting me go too many places with zero make-up, pshhh like that was okay) decided it was too cluttered and these bits of randomness need to go.
Are you still with me?
Okay.

My children are switching their idol worshiping of Michael Jackson to idol worshiping of Eminem.
Thank you MJ for teaching my kids that prescription drugs can kill you. There have been some wonderful anti drug debates because of this. Thank you also for the endless amount of times I have to say "crotch grabbing is only cool when Michael Jackson does it. You'll get arrested if you keep doing that in public. It's called lewd behavior." Also thank you for teaching my kids to (sort-of) moonwalk and to do the Thriller dance, and sing all of your songs because those things have supplied me, and anyone who would watch them hours of entertainment. (Dude, have you seen Nate sing Billy Jean?)
So far Eminem you have also picked up on the anti drug issue, right where MJ left off. You however have gotten yourself clean (which is just great to hear 5 and 9 year olds say) You have also taught my kids about domestic violence and its consequences. My kids jump at the chance to tell the tale about your poor upbringing, how you hate your dad, about your little sister, about Kim, Hailey, oh and that in the video for Stan, it is just an actor that looks like you, and he's kind of obsessed, like a stalker. Thanks for teaching my kids about stalkers. It has been interesting that you, Eminem have sort of a God-like way of teaching some things. Yesterday while in the car we were having a deep, meaningful discussion. Ty was debating the topic of past lives and if you would know if you were repeating things and how sad it would be to not remember if you had a really cool past life, when my dear Nate piped up and said "Ty, remember what Eminem says, you only have ONE shot, ONE opportunity..." If you do not know to which Eminem song I am referring to, then you need a quick lesson on Marshall Mathers aka Slim Shady aka Slim aka Eminem and I suggest you see 8 Mile. The song is the "theme song" if you will.
Thank you Eminem for also keeping me on my toes and searching for your "radio edited" songs. Because THAT'S fun to do, and for making sure I do not fill in the blanks to the parts edited.
Also thank you for making me cool again in my kids eyes because I have seen Eminem in concert. I had lost much respect when I neglected to ever travel far or pay $504,987 to see Michael Jackson in concert. (I only redeemed this by saying I saw Janet Jackson in concert, but the damage was done by then.)

While I am on a kick of letting you know what a wonderful parent I have become, I should also tell you that I have taught Keira do do the little shoulder dance that Jay-Z does in the video for the song "Big Pimpin". I have not shown her, or any of the other kids the video, so be happy about that.

Brody refers to most of us as "Baby" now, so that's fun. It is always a good time when a two year old can say "Hey baby." Next up, we'll be teaching him to say "How you doin'?"

Was that enough brain vomit for you today? Because I feel like I need a shower.

Mr Roboto

Here is where I am grateful for the chance to record things about my kids that make me smile.
Today I made my kids walk, and walk, and then walk some more.
I have been on a "teach thing to the kids that I want them to soak into their core being to be a wonderful adult" kick (is it bad I am calling this a kick? I mean I guess I do that every day, but I am more aware of these life lessons as of late.) I have been teaching the kids about the importance of walking places, if you can, and why cars contribute to pollution. Suffice to say we have been doing a lot of walking lately (so I don't eat my own words, because you know, kids will be the first to call you out on that stuff.) During our walks we've been having deep conversations.
I have been trying to instill a sense of adventure that they will carry on to adult hood. I tell them that when they grow up, I hope they will always rather go for a walk, or get out of the house and experience life, rather than being one of those guys too wrapped up in a game, or something on t.v. to do anything. I tell them their girlfriends/wives will be grateful for that trait one day.
Today I asked them what they thought their future girlfriends would look like. Ty said he thought she'd have brown or maybe black hair, and then added, he wasn't quite so sure how great black hair would look as she got older though. Nate said she would have yellow hair like him. Ty then added that whoever his future wife was, she would have to be very understanding of his schedule, because he would be traveling a lot for baseball, so she would either have to come with him, or stay at home with the kids, which he knows is hard, (he then added a right mommy?)
Nate said he was going to be an inventor and he was going to build robots for the army to use. He later told me one of his robots would pick up grenades when the bad guys threw them, and the robot would throw it back so it would explode on their side. I told Nate that Boston had one of the best schools in the world for people who want to build robots (MIT) and he better make sure he pays attention and do well in school so he can get into MIT one day. He told me he knew that and he was going to get a scholarship. (Now THAT was music to my mother of four children who all think college is mandatory and not a choice's ears.)
Each day I have been pushing the kids to walk a bit further than the last. I am enjoying this time together, and all of the wonderful conversations and memories that are coming out of it.

I am in the process of planning Nate's 6th birthday party, and want to poll my readers. We have decided on a carnival theme, and are going to set up various booth throughout the yard. Any suggestions for booths?
So far we have come up with:
  • face painting
  • football toss
  • soccer kick
  • hockey-slap shot
  • bean bag toss
  • fishing station

I'd love to hear your great ideas and input here!
Kindergarten is the last family/friends combined party we host for the kids, and we like to go out with a bang! Thanks in advance for all of your help.

I Am A Stay At Home Mom, (for sure)

Here are the conversations currently happening in my head (yes, to answer that question, I do have full blown conversations in my head, lots of them, and sometimes I forget they are only in my head and try to include someone mid topic. Talk about awkward.)
  • Ty has been in Florida visiting his dad's family since Tuesday. He returns this coming Tuesday night. I miss him.
  • Ty has called me every morning and every night. Is it too much to ask that he does this whenever he leaves me for the rest of his life? I asked him that. He said "Chill out mom, you can't cry and expect me to contact you with details all the time, but I will call when I can, and I always miss you too. I love you."
  • Yup, I raised the above mentioned boy.
  • It has been hotter than Hades lately, but I WILL NOT COMPLAIN.
  • Nate is spending the next two nights with Nathan's parents.
  • I ONLY HAVE MY TWO BABIES FOR THE NEXT 48 HOURS.
  • My house is already too quiet.
  • Although I do not think there is anything wrong with it, I can not fathom how parents leave their children for extended periods of time. I mean I think even a whole day is too much for me to handle. I literally feel as if a part of me is missing every second I am away from my kids. I feel the need to constantly look over my shoulder, like I left the iron on, but a million times worse.
  • It's a good thing I stay at home with my kids because of my above mentioned craziness.
  • I am going to be away from my kids for slightly over 48 hours (all FOUR of them) in less than a month.
  • I need to make an appointment with my doctor to get some anxiety relieving medicine for those 48 hours.
  • I wasn't joking about that.
  • I need to record Keira's reaction to Dora The Explorer. It's is somewhere in between Beatles-Mania and Beiber-Mania.
  • I wasn't joking about that either. She almost fought Brody's teacher for a tiny Dora doll when it was time to put the toys away. I have my doubts that she will speak to her this week unless she gives her that Dora doll back for good.
  • Keira is a scrappy fighter, and knows how to use her pouts, cries, screams, and dirty looks like a pro.
  • Mama taught her well!
  • Sometimes I think having a daughter that has just the right amount of snobbiness, or bitchiness is a good thing. Is that strange?
  • I am so busy the next few days that I think it may help pass the time with the older two gone.
  • Probably not though.
  • I need to stop procrastinating about packing a bag for dinner on the beach. I already was too lazy to actually make dinner and went to the store and bought lunchables for Brody and Keira.
  • That makes me feel like a slacker mom.
  • Fresh guacamole should fix that feeling.
  • I really need to go. Dora is over and the chant for an encore showing is getting more desperate by the second.

Spinners

Last night we celebrated Ty's birthday... just a couple of months late. Ty decided against a birthday party this year, and instead opted for taking a couple of friends to a Lowell Spinners game. We had a blast. Unfortunately Brody developed a whopping fever of 103 and climbing around lunch time, so he and Nathan stayed home. (I am also sick as a dog as well, but I seem to just have the world's worst summer cold.)
I will upload the fun pictures soon, but for now, here's the link to the shots of the kids running the bases after the game.

Here We Go Agin

A stomach bug has hit this household hard this week. Thankfully only three of us ( so far) are suffering. It has done wonders for my body confidence though, because my 2 lb/week weight loss goal was met only 3 days into the week. heck, at this rate, why not shoot for 4 lbs!
We are beginning to get into a rhythm for summer vacation, despite having lots of appointments and things scheduled the past few weeks. Brody got his staples out yesterday, and didn't even flinch. In fact I don't think he even realized they were being taken out. He is my tough little guy!
Keira is repeating EVERYTHING now. It seems like her vocabulary has tripled in the past week or so. Nate has been extremely active, and is missing school, and his classmates. He is keeping me o my toes trying to come up with creative things to keep him occupied.
On another note, although I briefly stopped running daily, to give the every other day run a try, I am back to every day again, because well to be honest, I need the stress relief at the end of the day. I am running 4 miles pretty much every night, and it feels great.
We have met a family that lives down the street from us, and Brody looks forward to seeing his new friend (who is also two.)
Ty has two more days of school left, and I am happy to report that he got an A+ on his Dustin Pedroia/biography report project. We're so proud of you Ty!
Not much other than that going on right now. Sometimes no news is the best news, right?

Another Day at the Beach, Ty's Big Speech, and the Park!

(What am I not cramming enough into one post for you??? *wink, wink*)First and Foremost, Ty's big speech. The third grade did biography reports and Ty chose his idol, Dustin Pedroia. Ty did an amazing job. I apologize for the shakiness of the camera, as I was juggling Keira and Brody (who had pooped and was threatening to stick his hand in it.)

Here are some photos from Biography DayWe also took an impromptu beach trip this week, and had a lot of park fun... here are a few of my favorite shots, followed by a slideshow of them all, ENJOY!

Sunny Disposition

The weather here in New England has been heaven sent this week. The kids and I have picked up right where we left off, and have soaked up every delicious minute of being outdoors. Trust me, the state of my house can back me up on that.
I have been POWER (caps intended) walking the lake in my town. It is 4 miles from my house, around and back. I am making it all the way on average around 40 minutes. I am proud of this. I thought it would take me a while to get back in the swing of things. I even had a jogging partner on Saturday, when Ty and I raced most of our way on our trek. I am sorry I have remained absent during this time, but I can't find any part of me that has wanted to spend one second inside longer than necessary, and as I mentioned before, any indoor time was spent quickly pulling my house in order, doing the necessary things, and making food.Today we spent the day at my mom's house. We took some new tutu photos, with her great new camera, and of course tested it out on the kids too. Here are my favorite shot of each of them:
And here is a slideshow of ALL of the other ones

Current Happenings

I realize it's been a while since I have just done some old fashioned updating, so here we go! (In birth order)

  • Ty is finishing up the regular season of basketball. They FINALLY won their first game last week (SO exciting! Ty got 2 baskets, and did great all game.) We are looking forward to today's game. He has finished reading his newest book for his book report (Old Mother West Wind) which filled my heart with joy. Why? Well it is written by my great great grandfather, Thornton W. Burgess. There's a lot of links in there (well three.) His project for this book report is to have one character write a letter to another character and put it in a bottle. A message in a bottle book report is what it is called. He is really excited about this report, and I know it makes him so proud to have such strong family ties to the author.
  • Nate has been LOVING his school's theme this week, Dinosaurs. For week now Nate has decided he will be a paleontologist. He is definitely my little scientist. In school they made volcanoes and got to bring them home. We have been making that thing explode every day since. I will upload a video in the near future of this fun, messy experience. Nate has really surprised us with his skills in building models and constructing the most detailed, cool structures. I get to sign him up for kindergarten in a couple of weeks. Words can not describe what an amazing feeling it is for this moment to come, when when he was first born and we didn't know if he would ever get the chance. Each one of these milestones with Nate is extremely emotional for us, that we do not take for granted.
  • Brody is recovering from yet another double ear infection and goes in this week to meet with an ENT. It breaks my heart to hear him tell me his ears hurt every day. I will be so happy when this phase of his life is over (the bad ear phase) and he is no longer in constant pain. We went out to eat Friday night (this is blog worthy because we not only never order food in, but I can count on one hand the times we have gone out to eat in the past 5 years. I'm not being dramatic, we just don't do it. Times are tough people!) Brody was so excited. In fact he told everyone we saw yesterday "eat out dada mama" which translates into dada and mama took me out to eat. He was so well behaved (they all were) and so grateful. He said "welcome" (he can't say thank you) to everyone (us, the servers, food runners, etc) and it made me feel like I was doing something right!
  • Keira is fully recovered (knock on wood) from our new year's fiasco. She is back to eating real food again, and I am trying to give her, within reason, everything we are eating for breakfast, lunch and dinner. She is standing on her own, and walking (assisted with a finger or two to hold on to.) She can say "uh oh" (my personal favorite), baby (ba-bah), dada, mama, doggie (daga), hi (ha), she blows kisses, waves hi and bye, and tells us she's hungry by signing, tells us she wants more of something by signing more, and tells us she's all done by signing done. I can not believe she will be one so soon. Man oh man where has the time gone so quickly?
P.S. Updated the music player.
