I got a knock on the door from one of the men who was doing work on my street. It was to inform me that we would be without power for the next few hours "or so".
I wanted to ask him if those few hours included a clown, a magician and one of those animal people that come to parties.
Then I realized how completely dependent on technology we were and decided we could suck it up.
We crafted. Man oh man did we craft!
The kids made pictures for Santa, and filled every inch of their paper.
It was fun, and the kids had a blast. Nate was fascinated with all we couldn't do, but didn't seem to mind, he was just investigating.
I know I have said this before, but gosh I have admiration for mothers and families pre-electricity and technology. To think most of those families were extremely large makes me even more in awe.
There are so many things that seem like a chore to me, but are a huge shortcut in comparison to what it could be. Washing machines and dryers, or hand washing and line drying (not that I have anything against line drying, I actually prefer it in the summer), but with the amount of laundry we go through, I can't even begin to fathom washing it all by hand. Dishwasher or hand washing dishes? I run my dishwasher at least once a day.
I guess I should just be more grateful that I have the ability to take the short cuts, because man are they worth it.
