Car Parts for Dessert?

Last night was fun. I was finishing up some laundry in my room, and Brody and Nate were playing next to me. Brody was playing with some large blocks and Nate was occupied with some cars, but I heard Brody cough, nothing big, and then I noticed he had grabbed a car, and there was a rubber wheel missing. I quickly picked him up and did a finger sweep, nothing, Brody was smiling at me, pointing to his mouth, trying to do a finger sweep on himself this time. I then decided to interrogate Nate and find out if the car in question was already missing the rubber part of the wheel, or if it had, as I was suspecting, become dessert for Brody. I called my mom, whom unless I know for sure it's serious, I always call with the "what if" questions.
"Hi mom... so how bad would it be if you ate a small, black, rubber tire... like from a car."
"Oh jeez. Brody? I don't know. You should call and ask, just in case. CALL ME BACK."
I then proceeded to wait to speak to the on-call people for another oh 13 minutes 27 seconds... but who's counting?
I then waited another 10 minutes for an on call doctor to call me back. Meanwhile, Brody is playing, like normal, rubbing his eyes, because it is now past his bedtime, and generally acting completely fine.
I spoke with the doctor, telling her he eats pieces of food bigger than the size of this wheel. My main concern being it could be toxic to his body, and of course passing the wheel. She informed me that small amount would not be toxic, and he was probably fine, if he swallowed it, it would pass on his own. Her main concern was with him being so young, sometimes the child will inhale an object, not swallow it. She told me to take him to the Hospital and they'd probably do an xray and listen to his lungs.
Yay. Off to Winchester. Brody, needless to say, passed out immediately in the car, and we thankfully were taken right in. All the normal test were done, then the xray, which I could not be in the room with him, but he didn't flinch or cry. The doc came in and said the xray was clear, but he wasn't surprised because SMALL BLACK RUBBER DOESN'T SHOW UP IN XRAYS. (Gee maybe something we should have thought about beforehand.) I am happy, I know it's better to be safe than sorry. I know I would not have slept very well if I didn't call and would be having nightmares of toxic shock. We went home and played with Nate and Daddy (Ty is with his grandparents until Sunday.) And eventually Brody was sleepy again.
Morning came very early for me, because I had a parent-teacher conference at Ty's school. As a side note, his teacher said he is one of the best students. He is very helpful, and he puts lots of effort into his work. She said he tries hard and wants to do well in school, and really there is nothing more a parent can ask for right? Yay for Tyler. He makes me proud.
