Keira's Christening Day was beautiful. She was able to wear the gown that her Grandfather/Godfather (Nathan's dad) wore, and the bonnet Nathan's mom wore. Of course the day could not run completely smoothly, because, well why would it? I got most of the stuff ready to go the night before (and found out that my dear friend, who I love to death shrunk the dress I was planning on wearing the last time she borrowed it. I wore it as a tunic type top with pants instead), and did the last bit of ironing in the morning. I'm a firm believer in waiting until the last minute to get the boys ready (less chance of outfit disasters that way.) An hour and fifteen minutes before we had to leave I got Nate and Brody in the bath, and as soon as I got Brody's hair wet I knew something was wrong. A little back story, Brody is allergic to mosquitoes. I know some will say, well aren't most people since they get a reaction to a mosquito bite, but Brody is bad. His bites get larger than normal, and last for months. They never heal like normal people's bites either. Because of this I always have to keep a close eye on any bites he gets. About a week ago he got bit on the back of his head. I noticed the past few days it was a little swollen and had been scabbing over a bit more. Honestly I was more concerned about one he had on his leg that looked blistery and gross. When I got his head wet though yesterday morning and saw what happened I was horrified. From the bite mark all the way down to his neck was huge and red. His head had morphed into a completely different shape and there was puss in the bite mark. I of course freaked out because I knew he had to go to the doctor immediately. Nathan called his mom who confirmed that he needed to be seen. I was crying and upset I couldn't go with him. Nathan quickly got dressed for the christening, just in case he and Brody made it back in time. I got Nate ready, fed Keira, got her to sleep, went to get in the shower and no hot water. Ahh! It was just one of the days. I had 7 minutes exactly to get dressed, put on make-up, and figure out what to do with my soaking wet hair, before we had to leave for the church. Miraculously, as I was on my way there Nathan called me, telling me Brody was put on meds for the bite and that he would hopefully make it on time. He made it with a few minutes to spare!
Some notable ceremony bits; When the priest asked us what name we gave the child, Nathan said Brody Paul, instead of Keira Nicole. We can tell where his mind was! We all got the giggles after that. Brody was passed off and brought in and out of the church many times because he just doesn't sit still. Despite me forgetting to take off Keira's bonnet before the actual baptism (and then having a difficult time with it because the strings were stuck under her chin) she LOVED the water. She even leaned back into it and stretched her arms out to enjoy it. She really was almost completely silent for the whole thing. I think she thought she was getting spa treatments.... oils and bathing.
Brody only lasted a half hour or so at the party afterwards before he went in for a nap for a few hours. (yes he still went to sleep last night. We just let him stay up until 9.) We had lots of fun using our new patio and visiting with everyone. Keira got beautiful gifts and even got two necklaces for her new jewelry box. One that Nana got from her trip to Italy. It is a miniature Cameo necklace, and a teeny tiny cross necklace from her Godfather. They are both gorgeous. Thank you so much to everyone who came and for all of the generous gifts. Keira is one very lucky little girl to have so many people who love her so much. Thank you all, also for your help, for those who made food, it was amazing, and to those who helped me clean. You all contributed so much of your time and really made this day memorable.
